Turtle Egg Cover: Crochet Pattern

Crochet Turtle Egg Cover is a great addition to your Easter decor.


Decorative egg covers can be fun to use just as decor or something to make your egg hunts a little more interesting.


This pattern has been created for the Easter Blog Hop, hosted by Sunflower Cottage Crochet.

For This Egg Cover you will need a few supplies, know a few abbreviations,there is a video to help explain the special stitches in more detail.

Supplies:

Yarn: one to three colors of worsted/Standard 4 weight

I used:

¹ Red Heart: Sand – SM. 6 yards, Med. 10 yards, LG.12 yards

² Red Heart: Sage - SM.8yrds, Med. 10 yards, LG. 11 ½ yards

³ Red Heart: Black – 12 to 18 inches for all sizes

Crochet Hook:

G (4.00 mm) hook & D (3.00mm) hook

Other Supplies:

Scissors, Tapestry needle, Elastic band, poly-fill (stuffing)

Eyes (googly eyes, safety eyes, buttons, or brads: all 6mm to 12mm),

Plastic Egg (6 cm easter eggs )


Gauge swatch:

With G (4.00mm) hook and worsted (4) weight 100% acrylic yarn

Ch 15, Row 1: in 2nd bb from hook hdc 14, Row 2 – 10: ch 1, turn, hdc 12

Measures: 4” x 4”

Sand: 10 yards

Sage: 2 yards

G (4.00mm) Hook


Rnd 1: Fhdc 7 (7)


Rnd 2: ch 1, turn, BLO- hdc 7, 2hdc (in side bar), BLO- hdc 7, 3hdc (in side bar), slst to join (19)


Rnd 3-4: ch 1, no turning, Ca-hdc 19, slst to join (19)


Rnd 5: ch 1, no turning, BLO-hdc 7, hdc2tog, BLO-hdc 10, slst to join (18)


Note: the 3rd loop for Rnd 6 will be the one closest to you because we turn

For the puff for the medium size we will yo, and pull a loop 6 times before yo and pull through all loops on the hook

Rnd 6: ch 1, turn, Ca-hdc 3, CC: Sage-Ca-puff, CC: Sand-Ca-hdc 4, CC: Sage-Ca-puff, CC: Sand- Ca-hdc 3, CC: Sage-Ca-puff, CC: Sand-Ca-hdc 4, CC: Sage-Ca-puff, CC: sand- slst to join (18)


Rnd 7: CC: Sand- ch 1, turn, sc 18 holding the circular elastic between the sts, slst to join (18)

Cut, tie, and weave in ends


Tail:

SM. Sage: ¾ yard

G (4.00mm) Hook


Ch 5

Row 1: working in the bb of the ch starting in the 2nd bb from hook- slst, sc, hdc, dc (4)

Leave a long tail for sewing to base, cut and tie


Sew the dc side of tail to the base at Rnd 4&5 between sts 13&14 (back of turtle)


Head:

SM. Sage: 7 yards

G (4.00mm) Hook


MR


Rnd 1: sc 6 in MR, slst to join (6)


Rnd 2: ch 1, turn, [2sc]x6, slst to join (12)

Rnd 3-4: ch 1, turn, sc 12, slst to join (12)


Rnd 5: ch1, turn, 2sc, sc 10, 2sc, slst to join (14)


Rnd 6: ch1, turn, sc 14, slst to join (14)


Rnd 7: ch1, turn, 2sc, sc 2 [sc2tog]x4 ,sc 2, 2sc, slst to join (12)


Rnd 8: ch1, turn, sc 4 [sc2tog]x2 ,sc 4, slst to join (10)


Place eyes, Rnd 5 at 4th/5th and 8th/9th so the eyes are about 4 sts apart.


Rnd 9: ch1, turn, slst 2, sc 1 [sc2tog]x2 ,sc 1, slst 2, slst to join (8)


Rnd 10: ch 1, turn, sc 8 (8)

add stuffing

Leave tail for sewing to body, cut and tie

Sew to base between Rnds 2&4 at st(s) that are font and center


With 5” to 10” of black, embroider the turtle a mouth.
